WA Quality Blasting & Painting provides specialised abrasive blasting, internal tank linings, and external protective coatings for storage tanks, pressure vessels, and piping spools across Western Australia.
Storage tanks, pressure vessels, process piping, and pipe spools present unique technical challenges for surface preparation and coating. Whether handling potable water, hydrocarbons, processing chemicals, or mining slurry, internal linings must form a durable barrier against immersion corrosion. At the same time, external surfaces require durable atmospheric coatings to resist weathering, UV radiation, and industrial fallout.
At our Naval Base workshop facility at 32 Hope Valley Road, we operate dedicated blasting bays and coating facilities equipped for spool batch processing and vessel coatings. Surface preparation can be specified to AS 1627.4 Class Sa 2.5 or Sa 3 (White Metal) to achieve the required anchor profiles for high-performance linings.
For piping fabricators and engineering contractors, production can be organized for pipe spool processing. Spools can be masked at flange faces and weld bevels, blasted, coated to specification, and checked for Dry Film Thickness (DFT) with documentation provided prior to site delivery.
Application of high-performance epoxy and specialized lining systems engineered for chemical resistance and immersion service.
Surface preparation and protective coating for fabricated pipe spools, featuring flange face masking and piece-mark identification.
Non-destructive high-voltage spark testing can be specified in accordance with lining manufacturer standards to verify lining continuity.
Coatings compliant with AS/NZS 4020 guidelines can be specified for potable water storage and contact assets.
Raised face flanges, threaded connections, and machined surfaces require masking or protective blanking. Substrates are cleaned to remove grease and contaminants.
Surfaces are abrasive blasted to achieve the specified cleanliness (such as Sa 2.5) and the anchor profile required for the selected lining or coating system.
Immersion linings or external multi-coat systems are applied using airless spray equipment in controlled workshop areas.
Following cure, lining continuity checks and dry film thickness readings can be documented in project QA records.
Our tank, vessel, and pipe spool blasting workshop is situated at 32 Hope Valley Road, Naval Base WA 6165. We offer transport access from Stock Road and Kwinana Freeway, servicing piping fabricators across Kwinana, Henderson AMC, Bibra Lake, Welshpool, and Canning Vale. For installed storage tanks and plant infrastructure, mobile services can be arranged.
Holiday testing is a non-destructive high-voltage electrical test that scans cured tank linings for microscopic pinholes, porosity, or thin spots. It is mandatory for critical immersion vessels and chemical storage tanks to prevent liquid penetration that would cause rapid underlying steel corrosion and premature tank failure.
Internal tank linings are heavy-build barrier formulations (such as novolac epoxies, vinyl esters, or glass-flake systems) engineered for continuous immersion, chemical resistance, and abrasive slurry exposure. External tank coatings are atmospheric systems consisting of zinc primers, epoxy intermediate barriers, and polyurethane or polysiloxane topcoats designed to withstand UV sunlight, salt spray, and atmospheric corrosion.
Precision surfaces must be protected before blasting begins. Flange faces, internal threads, and weld preparation bevels are shielded using gasket blanks, masking caps, or heavy-duty blast-resistant tapes to preserve machining tolerances and sealing surfaces.
Yes. Our Naval Base workshop accommodates pipe spool batch processing. Spools can be tracked by drawing marks, blasted to specification (such as Sa 2.5), coated, and checked for film thickness to align with fabrication and installation schedules.
To provide an accurate quote, supply: (1) isometric piping drawings or vessel dimensions, (2) pipe diameters, lengths, and schedule/wall thickness, (3) coating specification or internal liquid service medium, (4) surface preparation requirements (e.g. Sa 2.5), and (5) project delivery schedule and testing requirements.
